New Film Project: ADOWA




A Documentary Film Written by Rebekah A. Frimpong

This is the third documentary film from award winning filmmaker Rebekah A. Frimpong. The recent African Youth Excellence (AYE) Award winner, has written a new documentary film that will explore culture and traditions by way of dance. The film is set to go into production in October 2015 in Ghana and will be completed in 2016.
Adowa is a documentary film about oral literature in dance and preserving the culture of the Ashanti people of Ghana . A young artist of Ashanti heritage travels to Ghana to capture the beauty of traditional funeral dance called Adowa of the Ashanti people.  The film explores how the Adowa dance came to be and the tradition and history behind this dance using language, music, and the movements of the Adowa dance to reveal the story.

Acknowledgment from African Youth Excellence

On August 8, Rebekah Frimpong received an AYE Award for her work in the Arts from African Youth Excellence organization. This award is a great accomplishment for Rebekah because it comes from her peers within the African community. The AYE Award also comes with a fellowship and Rebekah looks forward to working with AYE.
